Topanga State Park is an ideal location for an outdoor photoshoot in Los Angeles, with its stunning scenery and natural beauty. When Timmy Milner reached out to me to capture the perfect image for the cover of his new single "Jacket Sleeve," we knew exactly where to go.
The image we were looking to capture was a photograph of Timmy's wife, Breezy, leaning on his shoulder, who was also the inspiration behind the song. We wanted to convey the emotion and intimacy of the lyrics through the photograph. Timmy had a specific vision in mind, and I was excited to help bring it to life.
As we began setting up the shoot, Timmy shared with me the story of their wedding day. They had hired a photographer to shoot their portraits, but unfortunately, that photographer lost all of their images and never refunded them. This made our job even more important because we wanted to capture the perfect images for them this time around.
We shot everything on 35mm Portra 400 film with my Minolta X700 to achieve the vintage aesthetic that Timmy was looking for. Timmy records everything on tape, so an analogue vibe fit the song perfect. The film's warm tones and soft contrast perfectly complemented the natural setting of the park. Shooting on film also gave us the opportunity to slow down and take our time to ensure that each shot was perfect. I love shooting film for elopements, engagements and weddings!
The day of the shoot was a beautiful, sunny day in Topanga State Park. We chased the sunset. We scouted out the perfect location for the photograph, which was a clearing surrounded by trees with a beautiful view of the mountains in the distance. The natural light was perfect, and I had only a few minutes before the sun dipped behind the mountain.
Timmy and his wife were amazing to work with. Their love for each other was evident in every shot, and it was a pleasure to capture their bond on film. We experimented with different poses and compositions until we found the perfect shot that conveyed the emotion and intimacy of the song. Couples photography on film is great!
In the end, we were able to capture the perfect image for the cover of Timmy's single "Jacket Sleeve." The photograph perfectly captured the love and connection between Timmy and his wife, and it was an honor to be a part of it. Shooting on film added a timeless quality to the image that we couldn't have achieved with digital photography. We're grateful for the opportunity to work with such talented and inspiring artists and look forward to more projects like this in the future.
